Jonas Nana Obeng BAFFOUR
Essence Mark Portrait Artist
Jonas Nana Kwaku Obeng Baffour, born on January 10, 2001, in Tema, Accra, Ghana, is an emerging artist currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Sculpture at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
His artistic journey began during his time at Accra Academy Senior High School, where his curiosity and desire to explore the often overlooked aspects of daily life became evident. This inquisitive nature led him to question and research the commonplace, seeking deeper meaning in the ordinary.
Jonas’s artistic focus is rooted in the concept of identity, particularly through the lens of human footprints. His fascination with footprints began as a response to personal insecurities but evolved into a profound exploration of how these marks encapsulate identity, legacy, spirituality, and the transient nature of existence. Through his work, Jonas aims to provoke introspection and initiate conversations about the significance of the imprints we leave behind in the world.
An internship at Nubuke Foundation further shaped Jonas’s artistic practice, where he assisted with gallery installations and engaged with inspiring artists. This experience encouraged him to channel his curiosities into meaningful artistic expressions. By merging symbolism with his creative exploration, Jonas strives to inspire viewers to embrace their uniqueness, value their interactions, and consider the lasting impact of their footprints in the larger tapestry of human life.
